2025 World Athletics Championship

The 2025 World Athletics Championship takes place at the iconic Japan National Stadium from 13-21 September, with 147 medals on offer. Follow all the action from Tokyo with our live updates.

Mondo Duplantis has a flair for the dramatic as he clinches his second gold medal at the World Championships with a stunning pole vault victory on the final day in Tokyo. The man from Lafayette had all 55,000 in the stadium holding their breath as he took his first two attempts at clearing 6.30m and then, after a bar wobble, he cleared it on the third time of asking to become a three-time world champion.

Earlier, US pair Valarie Allman and Tara Davis-Wooden won their respective events in the women’s discus and long jump, with GB’s Dina Asher-Smith finishing eighth and Torrie Lewis just outside the medals in seventh. In the men’s 1500m, Josh Kerr made it through to Wednesday’s final after a comfortable run in his semi-final. But he will be one of several British runners who will face a battle to secure a medal after 2022 Olympic champion Cole Hocker was controversially disqualified for jostling Germany’s Robert Farken in the other semi-final.

Oblique Seville powered over Noah Lyles and Kishane Thompson to win the men’s 100m in 9.77s, as the Jamaicans finished one-two, with Lyles running a season-best 9.82s for bronze. Botswana’s Letsile Tebogo missed out on a medal after being penalised for a false start.
