The US Open is one of the four Grand Slam tennis tournaments held each year and was first played in August 1881. The current tournament is held annually at Flushing Meadows-Corona Park in Queens, New York City. It is a hardcourt event and the fourth and final Grand Slam of the season. It is the most attended tournament in tennis with an average of 60,000 attendees each day.
The 2025 US Open begins on Sunday, Aug 24. The expanded 15-day format allows fans more opportunity to attend matches and gives players a longer rest between rounds, resulting in more intense competition. It will also feature video reviews on all 17 competition courts — a significant upgrade from last year’s eight-court system.
Jannik Sinner, defending champion, will look to add the Open to his growing list of major titles when he opens against Vit Kopriva. A potential semifinal matchup between top seed Aryna Sabalenka and the Wimbledon winner — either Elena Rybakina or Marketa Vondrousova — will be another crowd-pleaser.
Men’s doubles top seeds Marcel Granollers and Horacio Zeballos will battle Joe Salisbury and Neal Skupski in the championship match on Saturday. The tournament also features a wide range of events for juniors, seniors and wheelchair players. Whether you have a ticket to a match inside Arthur Ashe Stadium or are staking out a spot in the grandstand or outer courts, there’s plenty of food to enjoy from popular NYC eateries like Van Leeuwen Ice Cream and King Souvlaki.
