World Series Highlights

The World Series brings together baseball’s greatest teams to decide the championship of Major League Baseball. It’s one of the most prestigious events in sports, and it has seen its fair share of highlights over the years.

1905

The first World Series was played in the fall of 1905, with John McGraw’s New York Giants defeating the Philadelphia Athletics four games to one. It was the only time that a team won the series without winning all of its games at home.

2004

The Red Sox broke their 86-year championship drought, known as the Curse of the Bambino, by sweeping the Houston Astros in the 2004 World Series. They then won the following year to win back-to-back titles.

2005

The White Sox swept the Anaheim Angels to win the World Series in 2005, beating them four games to none. It was the only time that three starting pitchers threw no-hitters in a World Series, and it is the only Series in history to end on a walk-off home run.

2019

The Dodgers defeated the Atlanta Braves in seven games to win the World Series, bringing them their second title in five years and avenging their loss to the New York Yankees in 2021. The victory also made them the first franchise to win consecutive World Series since the Boston Red Sox in 1946 and 1947. The series also featured several historic moments, including a 10-inning Game 1, the longest game in Series history and Freddie Freeman’s walk-off grand slam in Game 7. This was the last World Series to be broadcast on NBC, and ABC would not televise another one until 2020.
