The World Series has featured many epic games filled with exciting lead changes and nail-biting twists. However, a few key moments have stood out in this crazy series.
NEW YORK – Giancarlo Stanton restored some order in Game 5 of the World Series, putting the Yankees back on top with a high and relatively deep sacrifice fly. But that was just the latest twist in a wild, back-and-forth affair between the Yankees and Dodgers.
After a shaky start, the Yankees started to get hot and take control of the game. Aaron Judge got things going with a two-run home run off Los Angeles Dodgers starter Jack Flaherty in the first inning. Jazz Chisholm followed suit with a solo homer to give the Yankees a 3-0 lead.
But the Dodgers responded with their own home run as Corey Seager launched one off Yankees reliever Brusdar Graterol, turning Yankee Stadium into a bobbing sea of bedlam. Then, with the game tied 3-3, Yankees starter James Paxton gave up a two-run homer to Freddie Freeman and a two-run double to Teoscar Hernandez.
Then the Yankees made some huge mistakes on defense to allow those runs to score. The most glaring error was a muffed fly ball by center fielder Aaron Judge off of Dodgers pitcher Gerrit Cole, which allowed him to steal second base and score. After that, a grounder to shortstop was misplayed by Anthony Rizzo and allowed him to score. This essentially tied the game and set up another exciting ninth inning.
