After the French Open, Wimbledon and Australian Open, the Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Queens becomes the center of the world’s attention for two weeks late summer as the US Open begins on Aug. 24. It’s the final Grand Slam of the year, with a wide array of top players in action at Flushing Meadows including defending champion Jannik Sinner, 2022 titlist Carlos Alcaraz, home favorite Taylor Fritz and four-time winner Novak Djokovic.
This year’s US Open introduces an expanded 15-day schedule with more matches and better opportunities for fans to witness the sport’s best at the USTA National Tennis Center. The tournament opens with qualifying matches through Aug. 22, with the main draw beginning Aug. 24 and the men’s final scheduled for Sept. 7.
Some of the year’s hottest young talent is expected to shine at the U.S. Open, including Victoria Mboko who thrilled her countrymen with a win at the Canadian Open and college phenom Lois Boisson, who defeated the likes of Barbora Krejcikova and Iga Swiatek to reach the main draw. Meanwhile, Ben Shelton, the winner of last year’s ATP Masters 1000 in Toronto, is poised for his first Grand Slam semifinal run while Madison Keys, Jessica Pegula and Coco Gauff will fight for a spot on the second tier of the women’s draw.
Pro tip: For those without tickets for matches inside Arthur Ashe Stadium, there are plenty of options for seating and watching on large screens around the grounds. And don’t forget to bring your own bottle of water — glass bottles and cans are not allowed, but metal or plastic reusable bottles are permitted. The food court at the main entrance of the venue offers a wide variety of dishes from New York City’s most popular restaurants, including ice cream from Van Leeuwen and pizza from San Matteo.
